There are many effective treatments for heel pain that can reduce or prevent the pain from returning. If the treatment is done properly, the pain will subside within a few days and you can resume your normal activities.

It is always possible to do this non-surgically. You can consult a family podiatrist in Baltimore, MD for the best diabetic foot care services.

There are many reasons to treat heel pain

Plantar fasciitis is the most common reason for heel pain. Plantar fasciitis is actually the most common condition and may get worse if not treated.

It can occur at any age but the most common symptoms are seen in people over 40 and those who use their feet frequently. If you experience these symptoms, you may feel stiffness and pain when you stand, run, or walk.

Plantar fasciitis can be caused by:

·         Shoes that have been worn out

·         Shoes that aren't properly fitted

·         Running, walking, and standing on hard surfaces

·         Stretching is required for tight Achilles tendon and calf muscles

·         Flat feet or high arches

·         Being overweight or obese

Treatment goals

To relieve pain at the bottom of your heel, you must first reduce the tightness around the plantar fascia. It is important to support and cushion the foot.

First, try over-the-counter arch supports. If this doesn't work, you might consider custom orthotics. The podiatrist might recommend the proper shoes and allow the foot to rest using special taping or a walking boot.

Use anti-inflammatory medication and ice to relieve the pain and soreness in your heel.  A podiatrist should be consulted if your heel pain does not improve within a few weeks.
